Categorical status map—not camera density, crime, or public opinion. Unmarked areas are not assessed. Markers use approximate jurisdiction centers.

A canceled contract does not prove all cameras are removed, ban future contracts, or end access through another agency. City, county and campus programs are distinct.

How this tracker works

Open sources. Clear distinctions.

Community reporting & verification

The October 30 r/DeFlockNC roundup supplies leads on local organizing and reported decisions. Confirmed terminations have an independent source linked in the directory. A report of a ban, defunding, rejection or termination is not treated as an interchangeable outcome.

Names are normalized: “Leeland” is listed as Leland; New Hanover is recorded as a county; UNC Wilmington is a campus. This is a dated research snapshot, not an automatically monitored feed or an exhaustive statewide inventory.

Verification dates and agency scope are included in the downloadable dataset. Physical removal is only described as confirmed when the linked source establishes it. Other vendors and shared-system access may remain.

Map boundaries: US county GeoJSON via Plotly. All 100 NC counties are shown for geographic context. No resident, signer, or camera-location data is collected by this tracker.
